The Role of Innovative Approaches to Achieve Food Security

   Relevance. In the transformational conditions in Russia, the innovative variant of economic development is a priority. These circumstances require the search for new approaches to achieve food security, coupled with sanctions challenges, a changing climate and a reduction in biodiversity.
   The purpose of the study is to substantiate the need to use innovative approaches to ensure food security, including by creating a laboratory for the production of mineral fertilizers.
   Objectives: to investigate the main trends the growth of the world population, the reduction of arable land; to analyze the possibility of using innovative developments in agriculture; to explore the possibility of increasing yields by applying mineral fertilizers; to analyze the dynamics of mineral fertilizers in the Russian Federation; to investigate the trends of consumption and export of mineral fertilizers produced in the Russian Federation; to justify the need to create a laboratory for the production of mineral fertilizers fertilizers and evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed innovative project.
   Methodology. The theoretical and methodological foundations of the study were the methods, approaches and other scientific provisions presented in the works of foreign and domestic scientists in the field of food safety research and increasing yields by applying mineral fertilizers. The scientific methodological apparatus was used, which included both general scientific methods and special research methods (statistical methods, methods of economic and financial evaluation of innovative projects, forecasting, planning, etc.)
   Results. The authors substantiate the need to use an innovative approach to ensure food security in Russia. To do this, it is proposed to increase the yield and intensity of agriculture, as well as diversify the varieties of cultivated crops. One of the ways to increase the yield of arable land is the use of fertilizers. Therefore, the article substantiates the possibility of creating a laboratory for the production of mineral fertilizers.
   Conclusion. At the end of the study, the authors carried out an economic and financial assessment of an innovative project to create a laboratory for the production of mineral fertilizers.
